All X (Twitter) Image Sizes (Updated March 2026)

X displays images differently in timeline cards vs expanded views. Timeline previews are cropped to roughly 16:9 for single images, while the expanded view shows the full upload. Multi-image tweets use different crop ratios entirely.

X removed its ML-based auto-crop in 2021 in favor of a center crop, which makes image composition more predictable. Keep your subject centered and you'll avoid most surprises.
